MESHUGGAH Delivers an Insane Performance at HardRock Live

MESHUGGAH is a band that cannot be defined as only one type of metal. Since 1987, this Swedish juggernaut of progressive metal has been blazing their path with different approaches to music. The band is well-known for its intricate ability to provide contrasting rhythmic structures to their music. Add in drummer Tomas Haake’s precise patterns, Mårten Hagström and Fredrik Thordendal’s intricate guitar work, and Jens Kidman’s very distinctive growling, you have the unmistakable sound of MESHUGGAH.

MESHUGGAH’s music often explores the dark parts of the human psyche. Jens Kidman's guttural vocals deliver abstract and thought-provoking lyrics that compliment the intensity of the music, adding an additional layer of depth to the overall experience. The band’s fall tour, with IN FLAMES and WHITECHAPEL came to Hardrock Live in Wheatland on November 22, 2023. And the show was nothing short of amazing. While I know each band stands out because of their unique abilities to push the boundaries of their own musical existence (thanks to bands like MESHUGGAH for paving the way), what I did not expect is how effortlessly these bands complimented each other, providing an unbelievable show of complex sounds that leave you wanting more. WHITECHAPEL’s musical focus tends to be on the brutal and aggressive deathcore side while IN FLAMES and MESHUGGAH are more on the progressive metal end of the spectrum. This “throupling” gave me one of my favorite experiences of 2023 - a concert with many variants within the metal genre. All three bands have a strong fanbase in the U.S. - and a lot of those fans were there that night. Everyone I spoke with agreed this tour showcases bands that push the sonic experimentation envelope.

Not many stops left on this tour! If you have a chance to see this tour, do so. Below is a list of tour dates and a link to all three bands sites so you can get tickets, t-shirts, or something pretty for me! :)
