Dead Register Brought Post Punk To Sac!
DEAD REGISTER West Coast Tour came to Cafe’ Colonial and it was epic!
Tortured! Gloomy! Pretentious! All words describing DEAD REGISTER a post punk, goth, industrial rock band fronted by Chv Chvasta and Avril Che and Greg Meisenberg on the drums. The trio of talent hail from Atlanta Georgia and Sacramento was one of their stops mid-tour.
I didn’t know what to expect heading over to Cafe’ Colonial to photo the band in action. All I knew is the lighting in there sucks for photography and since it is in poor taste to use a flash, I was a bit apprehensive about capturing pictures. When I got there, a good-sized crowd had already assembled to support the opening bands Drezden, Venetian Veil, and Sacramento’s own Tentacult. Small pits forming for the regulars to thrash about, the room was full of infectious energy. I don’t pit, but I appreciate a good outlet for angst.
I got to Cafe’ Colonial in time to check out Tentacult. “Cleansing the palatte” for DEAD REGISTER, this Sacramento death metal band absolutely crushed it. I have a few photos of them on my Instagram account (@Chel_Evah) if you want to check them out . Then DR came on to the stage and I positioned myself next to Avril. It was awesome to watch her create! There’s video and more pictures on my Instagram account as well so you can see her in action. Chv was singing and playing just to her right. I got the best pictures from him (it’s the hair for sure!). Set back just a bit, and in the middle of the stage, was Greg. The video explains Greg’s talent. His playing is the perfect compliment for DR (and he plays barefoot too!).
I was fortunate enough to chat with each band member before they went on. I learned the band has been around for about 8 years and Greg just started with DR in January of this year and was able to pick up and learn all of the songs for this tour in a short amount of time. I also bought one of their cool t shirts (ALWAYS support the Arts, people - if you can). I left just as the set was winding up BUT I should have stayed and asked a ton more questions of this Trio of Talent! And, they would have allowed me to do so, because as dark and gloomy and goth-y as they are, they are also equally as nice. GO SEE THEM!
